Moderne Man: The Classic

Alex M. is back & he is dishing out a Moderne spin on classic menswear....
let's see what he has to say!

Vests are becoming a quintessential part of a guy’s closet…especially a Moderne guy. A little black vest can make a huge difference from taking a generic t-shirt/jeans combination to adding a little variety to your outfit as a whole.

This outfit is a mesh of classic looks combined to make a new fit that you can
wear out to the bars or club. You’re probably guilty of wearing a white t-shirt and a pair of jeans, right? Well let’s make that outfit a whole lot more different!
Grab a pair of black skinny jeans from Degaine and pair up with the white V-Neck from Alternative Apparel.

The edgiest piece of this outfit is the Black Plaid vest from English Laundry which has a combination of grey and black plaid with a small detailed dagger on the chest pocket. The shoes are debatable because you can from a hot trend such as boat shoes or pairing it up with the timeless black Chuck Taylors. If you’re looking to be the Moderne Clark Kent, add a pair of Desmond Readers to be in disguise and have everybody envy your oh so stylish eyewear.

Always be stylish, always be Moderne!

Style Diary: Ready for the Races?

Ladies, it is that time of year again when you have to dust off those
over-sized floppy hats & get them ready for the Del Mar Horse Races.
It seems that it is the talk of the town in San Diego right now & everyone can't get enough of the hats that will be showcased during Opening Day. In light of this exciting, fun-filled day, we decided to style a look that would be prefect for your trip to the race tracks.

Featured above is the all-too-famous Mink Pink Opening Ceremony dress that would compliment any extravagant hat of your liking. Drench yourself in accessories to add more color to the beige garment. Subtle touches of green & gold just scream high-class!

For more information about the Del Mar Races, check out what DiscoverSD's Editor in Chief, Michelle Guerin, has to say about horse racing etiquette. Click here.

With hat in hand & proper horse racing 101 down, you are ready for the races!
Now go out & have some fun in the sun!

Friday Find: Calling all cowboys!

The week is over & we are heading into yet another crazy fun-filled weekend! We are switching things up and featuring a styling by Alex Munguia who is an avid shopper & writer from the good old state of Texas. We asked Alex to gives us his take on the Moderne Texas style for men. Here is what Alex had to say about his first styling ...

"The outfit is inspired by the state of TX and its idea of the cowboy. In this modern age, chaps are mostly a costume than a regular outfit. One notion that still remains is that the cowboy is a tough, rugged kind of guy. The distressed, black pair of jeans from Degaine exemplify the ideal rough & tough man of the south. Pair this with the black, light blue, gray plaid shirt that neverfails to goes against the current trends The finishing touch of the outfit is the pair of cowboy boots that give it that extra yee-haw to make it stand out without looking too farmboy-ish. An accessory that brings nostalgia about how cowboys use to round up their cattle is the Aditya bracelet which consists of a bead and two rope bracelets."

A special thanks to Alex for taking the time to create such a great look for our Moderne men. Check him out on twitter @ask_alexx.

Trend report: Neo-Native makes the cut!

As seen on the runaways of Isabel Marant and Proenza Schouler, the neo-native fabrics have made a comeback. To avoid the possibility of mixing the prints & looking like a 90's hot-mess, we have put together some pieces that could make all the difference to any look you may be rocking for the summer!

Featured above is the Mink Pink Inca Trail Tie-Back dress that has the perfect amount of tribal print that should be paired with colorful wedges! The Tolani Leopard print scarf is great for layering up on those cool summer nights. Not to mention that you can use tribal inspired jewelry to get in-touch with the more natural side of things. The Carol Marie line makes it oh-so-very-simple to change it up for your Fall 2011 looks.

Style Diary: More Maxi, please!

Now that we have been graced with the summer sunshine, it is safe to say that we can roam the streets in flowy fabrics & floppy hats. If you haven't already noticed, everyone has been raving about Maxi dresses. These dresses can go from drab to fab within a matter of seconds with the right accessories on-hand.

Take your simple Maxi dress & dress it up with a statement ring and light scarf to add some color. If color is not an issue, take it down a notch & toss your summer mane around and throw on those over-sized sunglasses.

Another must-do when thinking about a Maxi dress is the essential headgear! I have fallen head-over-heels for chain headpieces. Just adding this little headband will make heads turn when you are strutting down the sidewalk.

Go get them, ladies!

Friday Find: Turn It Up with Mossoni Turbans!

Every Friday we will be bringing you our favorite finds of the day in the
fashion realm. Check-in with us every week to see what the @modernefashion stylists are spotting on the streets, in magazines, and in their own daily lives!

Since the recent spike in temperature and my hair's tendency to frizz-up in the heat, I have taken it upon myself to check out the latest buzz with anything that can tame this mane. After much searching, I remembered seeing our ever-changing Carrie Bradshaw rocking the head wrap in Sex & the City 2, and instantly became obsessed. Featured above is the Missoni Turban that would look great with the Sky Risa Maxi Dress seen on Moderne.

So, I am out & going to take in some of this lovely SoCal sunshine!
Cheers to the weekend!
