Friday Find: High-low Skirts

Sexy, but classy? Daring, but subtle? Yup, we found the perfect medium for the Fall season!

The high-low maxi skirt is the one of the best additions to this season's collection. We are seeing them everywhere- on celebs, on the streets, even in the nightlife scene.

So here is out tribute to this very elegant, but funky look!

Sandals or wedges go hand-in-hand with this skirt that teases the eye. Pair it with a cute lace crop top to finish the outfit! Keep the color palette simple and make sure to add some colorful jewelry to add that special something.

So, if you are heading to a Sunday picnic or just a day out with the girls, pick a High-low Maxi Skirt to create that whimsical look!

Oh, and always remember to Be Moderne!

How To: Wear Maxi Skirts & Dresses

Photobucket

Fall officially begins this Sunday and it has definitely been making a presence. Sunny days have begun to turnover into chilly nights. For someone who does not wince at cold weather, I rejoice in knowing layering, bold colors, and prints lie ahead in my fall fashion forecast.

One of the more popular trends for fall is the maxi skirts and dresses. While the styling options are endless some might be intimidated by them. Don't be! We are here to help...

1) Wildfox Couture Romeo & Juliet Black Bird Skirt (pictured above) from the Fall 2011 collection is a flowy cotton skirt with gold detailed crosses. While the skirt is white, it is a bit edgier. Pair with a crop top in a solid color and a fur vest for an Almost Famous look or tuck in a striped tank top for a more subtle look.

2) Mink Pink Nothing to Hide Maxi Skirt is one of my favorites. Giving you the versatility to show as much or as little leg as possible, this sheer trendy high-waisted skirt is a must for your closet. Bandage skirt or shorts would go best underneath. Black being the easiest color to style around you cannot go wrong pairing this skirt with anything.

3) Lovers + Friends Gypsy Halter Maxi Dress in Snakeskin is a gorgeous flowing maxi dress with a halter tie closure and a draping v neckline. Dress it up with thin bangles and strappy heels for a night out or throw over a jean jacket, layer on necklaces and some chunky bracelets to play a more casual look.

Remember: layering is key. Scarves, jackets, bangles, vests... just make sure the jackets/vests are fitted to your body. Have fun!

Style Diary: The Little Black Dress

Every girl needs a Little Black Dress (aka LBD) to slip into right before that first date or night out on the town with the girlfriends, but they aren't so easy to find! We know from personal experience that finding that LBD is somewhat of a challenge. Do you go with the traditional A-line cut, or do you get a little funky with the ruffles & layers? There are so many options out there in the fashion realm that picking out the perfect look can make you go insane!

Since we know the trials & tribulations of the infamous LBD, we are here to help you!

Featured above is the Lovers + Friends collection. We just can't get enough of the Sway Open Black Dress in Victorian Lace that would be perfect for that first date night with the boy toy. You can just dress it up with some simple earrings & just let the lace do the rest of the work!

Another favorite is the Blue Heart Pleated Mini Dress in Black. Toss on some chunky jewelry to transform this dress into a fun & funky look that you can dance the night away in.

Oh, and always remember that you can never go wrong with a nude heel to make those legs look longer than ever! Our suggestions is to step into some Jeffrey Campbell's- they are the hottest thing right now.

So whether you are dressing to impress or de-stress, follow your Lovers + Friends into a LBD that won't let you down!

Moderne Beauty: The Sock Bun Curls

Are you tired of damaging your hair with all of the straightening, curling and blow-drying? Well, we have one of the craziest alternatives for those lovely locks...the Sock Bun Curls!

Now, we know what you are thinking, "How can my sock drawer help me get ready for a night our on the town?" ...it may sound extremely out there, but we are here to prove it to you!

So, let's begin from the beginning...

1. Pick out one of your socks that you aren't afraid of damaging.

2. Cut off the top & bottom of the sock.

3. Roll-up the sock into the shape of a donut.

3. Tie your hair in a high ponytail on the top of your hair.

4. Take the end of the ponytail, and wrap it around the donut-shaped sock.
You want to roll your hair all the way down to a bun.

5. After rolling your hair into the shape of a bun, you will have to sleep in it overnight. When you wake in the morning take the bun out, and lets those lock fall as they may!

Tip: Make sure your hair is semi-dry. You don't want it to be damp though.

Hope you lovers try it out! Let us know if it works for you.

Moderne Man: Bieber Fever

OK, lovebugs! Alex is back and dishing out the latest on the looks that a Mr. Bieber has been guilty of rocking. Let's see what he has to say!

"A certain pop star has been making headlines for his odd choices of outfits and canoodling with a certain Disney darling…if you’re thinking Justin Bieber, then we’re both shaking our heads at the multiple fashion faux pas that he’s been committing.

He is guilty of wearing the sagging pants- a forgettable 90s trend. And can someone explain what stylist allowed him to walk out on the VMA carpet wearing red pants, leopard print hi-tops, & a snake?

Guys, it’s always about wearing the clothes and not letting them wear you. Attitude and confidence is what makes the outfit better than what your counterparts are wearing.  A modern pop star or a Moderne guy like you and me need some Moderne threads to create the cool yet calm rock star look.

Option #1: Let’s get rid of those sagging pants by replacing them with a fitted, slim pair of Degaine Jeans that allow him to walk comfortably on the red carpet.

Option #2: The Colorist Tee from Hause of Howe is the dash of color for the outfit with the white t-shirt having an artistic edge to it with its promotion of an art gallery, which might lead the public to believe there is a little depth to this “Baby” singer.

Option #3: The Gunmetal-colored jacket from Hey Blondie has a sophisticated edge to make anybody stand out among the crowd in this must-have item.

Option #4: A pair of disheveled urban combat boots adds onto the edginess that a pop star hopes to bring to the red carpet among his peers.

Signing off - Alex M.
